Student United Way of Union County members did not let a little snow in yesterday’s forecast put a damper on their plan to honor Earth Day!

On April 22nd, students from Fairbanks’ Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) joined Union County’s Student United Way to celebrate Earth Day by collecting 13 bags of trash and an old camping chair at Liberty Park, Milford Center. Cade Feller, Treasurer SUWUC and Aubrey Tillman, FCCLA President organized the collaboration of the two clubs.

Cade Feller is a junior at Fairbanks High School and serves on our executive committee as Treasurer. Joining Cade from Student United Way Union County is Eliza Streit, sophomore at Jonathan Alder High School; Jake Hibbs, sophomore at Marysville High School; and Anna Beard, sophomore at North Union.

Brandi Hibbs, Student UWUC Advisor, said she was excited to have representation from each of the four school districts that Student UWUC incorporates.

“The pandemic has been challenging for any group but even more so with a new group aimed at bringing together students from four districts and five high schools. Student UWUC was officially founded in September of 2020, so the kids have not had many opportunities to gather safely. As the weather gets warmer and COVID restrictions lessen we look forward to more events like this one.”
